About The Position

Protective Coatings Inc. is seeking a Level 3 Paint Masker for their Swing Shift. This role involves performing complex masking duties with meticulous attention to detail to protect specific areas of parts from coating or processing. Level 3 Paint Maskers are expected to read advanced aerospace blueprints, assist in setup, and guide lower-level maskers. They will review shop travelers to determine operational requirements and verify previous operations. Responsibilities also include maintaining a clean work area, adhering to safety regulations, and ensuring parts are free of contaminants using solvent cleaners. The ideal candidate is self-disciplined, self-motivated, accountable, flexible, adaptable, resourceful, innovative, and possesses strong business ethics and communication skills.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of masking materials, and the ability to use materials appropriately.
  • Ability to use and train others to use measuring equipment such as calipers, scales, rulers.
  • Ability to train other employees in masking techniques.
  • Observational skills - ability to identify and fix masking issues.
  • 3 years minimum experience.

  • Knowledge of operating Die-Cut machine is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex masking duties requiring meticulous attention to detail to cover critical tolerance surfaces, threads, splines, and measured surface areas.
  • Read advanced aerospace blueprints and customer contract notations to interpret masking and finish processing requirements.
  • Assist in set up and provide guidance to lower-level paint maskers on masking samples and techniques.
  • Review shop travelers to determine operational requirements and verify completion of previous operations.
  • Perform masking activities by reviewing the shop traveler to determine the operational requirements and verification of completion of previous operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to organization safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform verifications ensuring that all traces of organic soils, fingerprints, dirt, and dust are removed using solvent cleaners.
  • Understand, adhere to, and demonstrate the company’s commitment to quality.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Measure and verify features of parts having critical dimensional tolerances utilizing calipers, scales, or rulers.
  • Cut or tear paper, tape, vinyl plugs to specified size as required per job specification.
  • Use precut masking materials and stencils for proper masking of part surfaces prior to finishes applied.
  • Proper use of masking tools such as razor blades, wire cutters, insertion tools, pliers, etc.
  • Read work order instructions from traveler or other job-related documents and process jobs exactly as instructed.
  • Physically work with hands to accurately mask certain surfaces of parts to protect from the finish process applied utilizing tapes or other masking materials.
  • Work with and around solvent cleaners and paint materials such as acetone, alcohol, MEK, paints, etc.
  • Work independently or as a team member as required by job.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment to meet Production and Quality goals.
  • Read and verify customer contract (purchase order) for masking clarification purposes.
  • Perform basic in-process inspection duties as required.
