Paint/Body Worker (Body Shop)
About The Position
The Paint / Body Worker (Body Shop) position is responsible for finishing cabs and parts to Spartan’s quality standards, prior to painting. This role involves repairing defects, performing presanding, applying body filler, roll priming, sanding, and metal finishing as needed. The position requires the ability to wear respirators for extended periods, work at heights using ladders and lifts, and understand body shop and paint processes. The individual will also be responsible for meeting production goals, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and communicating with various cross-functional teams to resolve issues.

- No critical shortcomings on last performance review
- 3 years of body shop experience
- Strong knowledge of metail finishing
- Working knowledge of application of fillers, including polyester fillers, putties, and primers
- Demonstrate high quality body work
- Able to tolerate very high heat temperatures
- Able to be exposed to high dust & chemicals
- Able to work overtime on short notice
- Willing to improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed)
- Willing to develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (example: AS/400)
Responsibilities
- Repair defects
- Perform presanding, body filler, roll prime, sanding, and metal finishing, as needed
- Lead / perform lean events
- Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
- Wear air or form fitting respirators for extended amounts of time
- Work off ground-level, on ladders and lifts, as needed
- Read and follow detailed operator instructions, as required by a particular area
- Understand, and be able to articulate, the body shop and paint processes
- Self-check work and inspect prior processes
- Use basic hand, electric, cordless, and pneumatic tools, as required
- Meet production goals
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Initiate process improvements
- Support 5S in work area
- Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
- Work in close proximity with customer, as needed
- Solve complex problems with minimal assistance
