About The Position

The Paint Associate is responsible for providing prompt, exceptional customer service, promoting sales, implementing cross-selling, and assisting in the smooth operation of a retail store. This role involves assisting customers with various product offerings, providing knowledgeable advice on product usage and application techniques, processing orders accurately and efficiently, and maintaining inventory levels. The Paint Associate will also promote Grauer’s as a trusted resource for home improvement.

Requirements

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Capacity to manage time efficiently and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic computer skills for processing orders, using point-of-sale systems, email, and accessing product information.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move heavy paint cans/other merchandise.
  • Ability to position oneself to move such as stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, turn, bend, reach, pull, crawl, ascend or descend ladders.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Build customer relationships by ensuring prompt, positive, and professional assistance to all customers across all departments (paint & decorating).
  • Understand customer requirements through effective questioning and attentive listening.
  • Offer comprehensive assistance and advice to customers on all product lines and services.
  • Complete customer orders accurately and efficiently, including order taking, mixing paint to customer specifications, and providing precise color matches.
  • Upsell or cross-sell complementary products such as brushes, rollers, primers, wallpaper, and window treatments.
  • Assist in carrying customer/contractor purchases to their vehicle.
  • Provide sales leads to Outside Sales Representatives for paint/decorating.
  • Pursue new business opportunities and account growth by targeting both new and existing customers during downtime.
  • Deliver paint on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist customers with color selections, maintain color chips, brochures, and fan decks.
  • Manage wallpaper orders, including booking loans, ordering, receiving, and customer notifications.
  • Assist customers with general questions about window treatments and direct them to a window treatment specialist.
  • Assist with blind repairs, including packaging and shipping, and installing/uninstalling treatments.
  • Actively participate in in-store inventory activities: monitoring levels, receiving inventory, restocking shelves, and ensuring accurate labeling and pricing.
  • Assist with inventory counts and report discrepancies or shortages to the store manager.
  • Maintain merchandising standards, including sales floor displays and promotional displays.
  • Participate in maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment inside and out.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as filling tint machines, sweeping floors, dusting, facing shelves, cleaning bathrooms, and managing trash.
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on new products, techniques, and industry trends.
  • Continuously improve product knowledge and customer service skills.
  • Present a professional, neat appearance and maintain a good attendance record.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
