About The Position

Monterey Peninsula Surgery Center is seeking an experienced and dependable Pain Management Technician / Preoperative Medical Assistant to join our perioperative team. This is a hybrid clinical role that combines hands-on support during interventional pain procedures with preoperative patient outreach and preparation. The ideal candidate is an experienced Medical Assistant or healthcare professional who enjoys working directly with patients, is comfortable in a fast-paced surgical environment, and can confidently communicate with patients by phone to help ensure they are prepared for their upcoming procedure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education or certifications in Medical Assisting, Sterile Processing or Surgical Tech required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-service-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies (up to 30 lbs.), stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preoperative phone calls with patients scheduled for upcoming procedures.
  • Review and confirm patient information, medical history, medications, allergies, and other preoperative information within the scope of the position.
  • Confirm procedure dates, arrival times, transportation requirements, and other preoperative instructions.
  • Identify and communicate potential concerns or changes in patient condition to the appropriate nurse or clinical team member.
  • Ensure required preoperative information and documentation is complete and available prior to the day of surgery.
  • Assist physicians, registered nurses, and the perioperative team during interventional pain management procedures.
  • Prepare procedure rooms by gathering and organizing equipment, supplies, medications as directed, implants, and disposable items.
  • Maintain appropriate sterile technique and assist with maintaining the sterile field.
  • Assist with patient positioning while maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
  • Anticipate physician needs by preparing and passing instruments and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with patient transfers and transport before and after procedures.
  • Observe patients and promptly report concerns or changes in condition to the registered nurse.
  • Participate in the procedural time-out process and immediately communicate any discrepancies.
  • Assist with efficient room turnover between procedures.
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, and prepare reusable pain management instruments and equipment according to manufacturer instructions and facility policies.
  • Coordinate with Sterile Processing to ensure timely availability of instruments.
  • Maintain pain management carts and procedure rooms in a clean, organized, and fully stocked condition.
