Responsible for inspecting horses' shoes in the paddock and fixing any shoe problems under the direction of the trainer. This role requires a high school diploma or GED, 5 years of related experience and/or training, and knowledge of the Rules of Racing. The Paddock Shoer is expected to foster a fun and positive environment, provide excellent customer service, and maintain professional appearance and work standards. The position involves a medium to heavy workload with consistent standing, sitting, and walking, and the ability to lift up to or over 20lbs or exert over 100lbs occasionally. The role also requires consistent touching, feeling, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and occasional use of office equipment and driving motor vehicles. Communication skills, both verbal and written in English, are essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, potentially noisy environment. The Paddock Shoer must also be able to pass a background check and obtain any necessary licenses or permits, such as a Texas Racing Commission License.
