About The Position

The Paddock Judge is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the paddock area during racing events. This role involves managing the flow of horses and participants, maintaining a safe and orderly environment, and enforcing racing regulations within the paddock.

Requirements

Previous experience in a racing environment, preferably with knowledge of paddock operations.
Strong understanding of horse racing rules and regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and navigate a busy environment.
Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a paddock judge or similar role.
Familiarity with different breeds and racing disciplines.
Knowledge of veterinary care for horses.

Responsibilities

Oversee the movement and staging of horses in the paddock prior to races.
Ensure all participants (jockeys, trainers, owners, grooms) adhere to racing regulations and paddock rules.
Maintain a safe and secure environment within the paddock area.
Communicate effectively with racing officials, stewards, and other relevant personnel.
Monitor the condition of horses and report any concerns to veterinary staff.
Assist in the identification and verification of horses.
Manage the timing and scheduling of horse entries into the parade ring.
Handle any disputes or issues that arise within the paddock in a professional manner.
Ensure the paddock is clean and well-maintained.
