About The Position

The Packhouse Lead is responsible for overseeing packhouse operations, including team leadership, training, food safety compliance, production efficiency, and coordination. This role involves managing a team of Packhouse Production Assistants and Packhouse Machine Operators, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and driving productivity. The Packhouse Lead also plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, managing production flow, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Train and manage Packhouse Production Assistants and Packhouse Machine Operators on packing procedures, quality standards, and safe handling of products.
  • Lead by example, maintaining a positive and productive work environment.
  • Monitor and motivate the team to meet or exceed packing targets.
  • Provide general coaching and feedback to improve the performance of the team and escalate concerns to the Supervisor when necessary.
  • Report all GMPs, food safety policies, and workplace safety/OSHA violations to Supervisor to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation of all packhouse equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
  • Monitor for signs of plant disease or cross-contamination and report issues to the Supervisor.
  • Understand the required documentation for each process and accurate completion of QC Verification and PRLs, and Temperature Logs.
  • Ensure smooth production flow by coordinating with line backers (runners) and maintaining an optimal supply of products and materials.
  • Oversee the accurate execution of daily production schedules, adjusting as needed to meet order requirements.
  • Manage seamless changeovers between SKUs to minimize downtime and ensure continuous packing operations.
  • Work with Packhouse Machine Operators to ensure proper setup and operation of equipment, including Marco machine settings.
  • Track and manage productivity metrics, including pack times, case counts, and production efficiency, and share progress routinely with Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with the Harvest/QC Lead to maintain a steady product supply for packing.
  • Coordinate with the Packhouse Supervisor and Harvest Lead to establish efficient break and lunch schedules.
  • Communicate daily with the Supervisor, providing updates on production performance, employee efficiency, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Manage the creation and staging of boxes to support daily production needs.
  • Prepare pack lines at the end of each shift to ensure readiness for the following day.
  • Meets eligibility requirements (e.g. time with company and no outstanding disciplinary actions).
  • Satisfactorily completes all of Tier 1 responsibilities in accord with company standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for Tier 1 responsibilities to the extent not modified in Tier 2.
