The Packer role involves trimming, inspecting, and packing containers or parts on line 1. This includes managing the 95-gallon trash cans by taking them to the compactor for emptying and returning them. The position requires inspecting and packing bottles on assigned lines, in the repack area, or during rework activities. Packers are responsible for monitoring production for quality defects, promptly informing operators and/or supervisors of any issues, and correctly applying tickets to finished packages. They must be able to read and understand job discrete pick lists and ensure compliance on their assigned line. Additionally, the role involves filling out required data on exception reports and pack/inspection sheets. Packers will also operate, reset, and clear jams on auxiliary equipment such as bottle conveyors, sleeve labelers, box makers, labelers, flame treaters, and leak testers. Completing assigned housekeeping duties, employee safety observation forms, and reporting hazards are also key responsibilities. Participation in monthly safety and/or quality meetings and adherence to Silgan safety policies are mandatory. Emptying reject bins and grinding scrap are part of the daily tasks. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
