About The Position
The Packer is responsible for filling boxes with the appropriate number of bags, ensuring the packing machine is functioning correctly, and inspecting for any broken seals or product errors. This role involves labeling boxes and placing them on the belt for stacking on skids. The position also includes daily tasks such as building boxes, verifying bag weights, arranging packages in boxes with specific quantities, checking bags for defects, and maintaining packaging supplies. Additionally, the Packer is responsible for maintaining a clean production area, including sweeping floors and other cleaning duties as assigned. Safety responsibilities include adherence to Lock Out Tag Out procedures, Food Safety regulations, wearing required PPE, and following general employee safety practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's.
- Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Responsibilities
- Build boxes
- Make sure bags are filled to the appropriate weight
- Label boxes
- Packages are placed in boxes in specific arrangements and set quantities
- Check bags for any broken seals, air pockets, holes, or other faults in the product
- Place full boxes on the belt to be stacked on skids
- Dry wipe production area when needed
- Maintain/replenish packaging box levels
- Sweep the floor and any other Clean-up required
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out procedures
- Follow all Food Safety regulations
- Wear all required PPEs
- Follow all common employee safety practices
