About The Position

The Packer Technician will support the Operator or Apprentice in safely setting up, maintaining, and operating the machine(s) to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run. They will also assist with defining problem statements when issues arise. The Packer Technician will feed product into the gluer as well as packing finished product into cases. Oversees efficient operation of the auto-packer machine. This role requires the ability to lead others to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Operator or Apprentice in safely setting up, maintaining, and operating the machine(s) to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run.
  • Assist with defining problem statements when issues arise.
  • Feed product into the gluer.
  • Pack finished product into cases.
  • Oversee efficient operation of the auto-packer machine.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot the auto-packer.
  • Assist the gluer operator in some portions of the gluer set-up.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate pack assist, case sealer, labeler, and automation.
  • Set up, replenish tape, and troubleshoot the case sealer.
  • Assist in quality sampling of product.
  • Interface with an electronic control panel and keep pace with a high-speed piece of equipment.
  • Utilize machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set-up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor.
  • Communicate well with other team members.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
  • Welcome updates and improvements to processes and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
  • Perform work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum.
  • Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems.
  • Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines.
  • Use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments based on production needs.
  • Understand and complete documentation and data entry requirements including but not limited to scheduling, job tickets, quality samples, and shop floor data collection.
