About The Position

The Packer is responsible for operating winders, completing quality checks as required, packaging and palletizing finished product, handling scrap product and assisting in scrap reduction while maintaining quality standards. This role requires attention to detail in verifying weights, recording product information, and ensuring accurate labeling and adherence to product guidelines. The position also involves maintaining a clean work area, assisting peers with breaks, and cutting and separating scrap material. The Packer must be able to operate all equipment in stretch and a minimum of 5 pieces of equipment in custom.

Requirements

  • Must know how to read and use a tape measure and weigh scale.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., if over 50 lbs. require a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours.
  • Must be able to work rotating 12-hour shift including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • The employee in this job is required to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of time); and up to 35 pounds of force frequently (more than 1/3 of the total time); if over 50 lbs, requires a team lift or mechanical aid such as a roll lift or forklift.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours.
  • Must be able to work rotating 12 hour shift including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and rotate body at all times.
  • Reaching with hands and arms for as much as 100% of workday.
  • Talking to communicate with others.
  • Hearing to communicate with others and respond to manufacturing and PIT equipment sounds.

  • Walking to operate production machines and to package and palletize finished product.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.

Responsibilities

  • Enter one near miss and one observation per month.
  • Review production orders.
  • Determine correct packing materials are available at the line.
  • Remove finished product from winders and place it on scales to verify weight.
  • Weigh and accurately record all product on work order/continuation sheets.
  • Place items in designated cartons as per production order specifications.
  • Package product per work order manufacturing notes and any other order instructions, checking accuracy of labels and adherence to product guidelines.
  • Place identification labels on product or skids per work order instructions.
  • Keep work area clean of scrap plastic, cardboard and other debris.
  • Ensure that quality is being followed according to work order specifications.
  • Assist in giving breaks to peers.
  • Cut scrap and separate properly.
  • Work all equipment in stretch and minimum 5 equipment in custom.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of others.
  • Check equipment and work area for potential safety hazards and report those to the shift Supervisor.
  • Stop work when a perceived unsafe condition or behavior may result in an unwanted event.
  • Understand and actively participate in the company’s EHS policy, goals, and objectives.
