About The Position

The Utility Operator is responsible for ensuring the shipments meet plant order requirements, quality of product is within specifications, the correct product is packaged following plant instructions, package labeling meets requirements, and finished product weights are within range. Plant orders could be in bags weighing up to 50 lbs. or super sacks. The Utility Operator reports to the Production Supervisor. This is a 2nd shift position with the hours of 3 PM - 11 PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and maintain forklift certification.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDSs, and various production schedules / reports.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs. consistently while packaging.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Follow and comply with OSHA industrial regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of manual bagging, super sack filling, and automated packaging, the ability to start up, run and explain the process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.
  • Operate the blending system to ensure recipes meet specifications and that all packaged bags and supersacks comply with weight tolerances and regulatory labeling requirements.
  • Manual handling and palletizing bags, weighing up to 50 lbs, may be required at a rate of up to 120 per hour for the shift.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and service bulk powders and packaging equipment, including supersack fillers and automatic bagging systems.
  • Service and repair equipment as directed.
  • Keep palletizer supplied with pallets, slip sheets and other needed supplies.
  • Clean super sacks and bagged pallets in the pallet blow-off booth and wrap them to stabilize for shipment.
  • Warehouse finished product.
  • Perform preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required. Ensure energy isolation is performed before repair work begins.
  • Advise following shift and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
  • Complete required paperwork including plant orders, sample tags, lift truck inspections report, work request, and downtime reports.
  • Stencil product with customer information, repalletize product, and dump nonconforming product.
  • Maintain and oversee good housekeeping practices. Inspect packaging supplies for reuse.
  • Maintain records of production.
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Scheduling to ensure adequate supplies of packaging and production materials are available.
  • Follow ISO 9001 guidelines and support the quality management system.
  • Consult with Maintenance personnel and initiate action to correct any problems if any are found.
  • Notify Production Manager of any problems that will or may impact a confirmed finished product ship date.
  • Consult with QC Lab Technician to assure compliance with quality control specifications.
  • Work with other hourly and salary staff on continuous improvement efforts which may include the attendance of meetings, the use of continuous improvement tools, the tracking of data and issues on white board and other activities.
