About The Position

The Utility Operator is responsible for ensuring the shipments meet plant order requirements, quality of product is within specifications, the correct product is packaged following plant instructions, package labeling meets requirements, and finished product weights are within range. Plant orders could be in bags weighing up to 50 lbs. or super sacks. This is a 2nd shift position with the hours of 3PM - 11PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and maintain forklift certification.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations including multiplication, addition, and percentages (calculator use is acceptable).
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDSs, and various production schedules/reports.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs. consistently while packaging.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Must follow and comply with OSHA industrial regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of manual bagging, super sack filling, and automated packaging, the ability to start up, run and explain the process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements.
  • Monitoring equipment for visible emissions, immediate shut down of equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their manager.
  • Reporting all spills, incidents, and near hits to their manager, and inputting into Enablon.
  • Operating the blending system to ensure recipes meet specifications and that all packaged bags and supersacks comply with weight tolerances and regulatory labeling requirements.
  • Manual handling and palletizing bags, weighing up to 50 lbs, may be required at a rate of up to 120 per hour for the shift.
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and servicing bulk powders and packaging equipment, including supersack fillers and automatic bagging systems.
  • Servicing and repairing equipment as directed.
  • Keeping the palletizer supplied with pallets, slip sheets and other needed supplies.
  • Cleaning super sacks and bagged pallets in the pallet blow-off booth and wrapping them to stabilize for shipment.
  • Warehousing finished product.
  • Performing preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required.
  • Ensuring energy isolation is performed before repair work begins.
  • Advising following shift and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
  • Completing required paperwork including plant orders, sample tags, lift truck inspections reports, work requests, and downtime reports.
  • Stenciling product with customer information, repalletizing product, and dumping nonconforming product.
  • Maintaining and overseeing good housekeeping practices.
  • Inspecting packaging supplies for reuse.
  • Maintaining records of production.
  • Working closely with Purchasing and Scheduling to ensure adequate supplies of packaging and production materials are available.
  • Following ISO 9001 guidelines and supporting the quality management system.
  • Consulting with Maintenance personnel and initiating action to correct any problems.
  • Notifying Production Manager of any problems that will or may impact a confirmed finished product ship date.
  • Consulting with QC Lab Technician to assure compliance with quality control specifications.
  • Working with other hourly and salary staff on continuous improvement efforts.
  • Performing other related duties as needed.
