About The Position

Our Packaging Technician is responsible for packaging and overseeing a range of products as they complete their travel through the line. This role involves completing various daily tasks, loading and adjusting packaging into machines, assisting with line startups and changeovers, and working with technology to input specifications and monitor machine functions. The technician ensures sufficient materials are staged, correct product quantities are maintained, and out-of-spec product is removed. They also perform routine preventative maintenance, adhere to production schedules, and maintain optimum product flow. Additionally, the role requires separating and discarding inedible waste, reporting production information, and participating in safety and quality inspections.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Flexibility with schedule, including start times and weekend work.
Willingness to acquire a wide variety of skills to assist the surrounding team and fully understand the processes.
Proficiency in Drive for Results, Process Management, Integrity & Trust, Conflict Management, and Time Management.
Ability to problem solve, learn on the fly, process and technical learning, and make quality decisions.
Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
Ability to work in a noisy environment for length of shift.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to reach above shoulder height.
Ability to bend, twist, stand, climb stairs/ladders, push/pull, and walk for the length of shift.

Responsibilities

Adjusting code dater and tape machining.
Maintaining clean areas and loading trays on conveyor.
Loading and adjusting packaging into machine according to product.
Assisting in line startup, start over, and changeover procedures.
Using technology to input specifications and monitor machine functions.
Ensuring adequate materials are staged for product being produced.
Controlling quantity by ensuring the correct amount of product is in bag and/or case.
Removing out-of-spec product/materials to control quality.
Maintaining optimum flow of product to keep product off floor.
Separating and discarding inedible waste into proper trash containers.
Performing routine preventative maintenance and changeovers.
Adhering to production schedules and ensuring production orders are met for finished goods inventories, minimizing waste to ensure conformance to safety and quality standards.
Removing all out-of-spec product from the line and notifying Production Supervisor of all non-conforming product or processes on the line.
Ensuring safe operation by complying with the corporate accident prevention program and following safe work practices.
Attending monthly required safety meetings when applicable.
Informing Management for maintenance and repair of packaging equipment, and for machine parts and manufacturing supplies.
Recommending improvements in machinery and equipment and in manufacturing methods.
Ensuring company standard practices and procedures are followed.
Maintaining and reporting production-related information regarding yields, efficiencies and labor utilization to management and/or related tracking programs.
Participating in weekly GMP, sanitation, and safety inspections throughout the production departments and correcting any identified deficiencies.
Following all GMP's, Food Defense and quality policies.
Ensuring all GMP and all food hygiene and safety standards are in compliance.
Reporting all food safety incidents such as GMP violations, ingredient and product contamination, metal detector, screen or magnet deviancies', glass breakage, and pest harborage.
Performing other related responsibilities, as needed or directed by Production Supervisor and Manager, to support Crown Bakeries' business objectives.
