About The Position

The Packaging Technician is responsible for the daily operation of the equipment and procedures for the Packaging area (Drumming Plant and Flaking Plant). This includes responsibility for manipulation of equipment and controls to carry out procedures, completion of in-process testing for process decisions and verification, and housekeeping of the work area. Responsible for preparing, labeling, and loading dry freight shipments for both domestic and international shipments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Discharge duties in accordance with SI Group’s Quality policy.
  • Within job scope, ensure the implementation of compliance programs for all federal, state and local regulations covering employee health, safety security and the environment.
  • Adhere to SI Group’s Integrated Management System, company policies, EHSS requirements, Responsible Care practices and ISO 9000 programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Desired knowledge of chemical process unit operations through experience or formal training in particular, pump and equipment line up, screw conveyers, elevators, compactors, and refrigeration equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize packaging procedures to enhance efficiency and minimize waste during the conversion of materials into finished products.
  • Suggest improvements to processes aimed at reducing waste and enhancing production efficiency.
  • Utilize internal tools to measure equipment effectiveness and maximize capacity.
  • Perform start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers, maintenance preparation, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with Logistics, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to resolve mechanical downtime and implement process improvements.
  • Follow procedures to prevent non-conforming products and maintain quality standards.
  • Make recommendations to improve equipment and reduce product variability.
  • Conduct in-process sampling and testing to verify product quality.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and organized quality-critical records.
  • Support and promote the Responsible Care Management System by adhering to safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Ensure unsafe conditions are addressed through work orders and follow-up actions.
  • Follow Management of Change (MOC) procedures in the assigned area.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of plant areas.
  • Participate in start-of-shift meetings and monitoring programs as required.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Issue work permits as needed for the assigned area.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Reviews (PHR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI).
  • Serve as “Equipment Owner” for the assigned area, ensuring maintenance work orders are created and followed up on.
  • Complete verification of the assigned area within prescribed time frames.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
