Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Science plus 3 years of progressive experience as a packaging engineer in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
  • Alternatively, Master’s degree in Packaging Science with 1-2 years of experience as a packaging engineer in the medical device, pharmaceutical industry, or life sciences industry.
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) experience.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and ISTA testing procedures and/or standards.
  • Experience with TOPS Pro or CAPE packaging design software and CAD (SolidWorks) modeling.
  • Experience interpreting drawings.
  • Experience in designing packaging for automation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development, design, validation, and project management of packaging initiatives across the Life Sciences business, including new packaging design, material conversions/down gauging, quality improvements, and sustainability improvements for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions for disposable plastic ware, cell culture devices, bioprocess vessels, glassware, pharma packaging, and liquid handling products.
  • Provides leadership and technical expertise to packaging projects.
  • Functions as a liaison between commercial and manufacturing functions regarding packaging specifications, acceptance testing, and validation of new packaging materials, equipment, and processes.
  • Prepares new packaging design documentation for new products.
  • Collaborates with packaging suppliers to ensure consistent material quality and verify supplier accountability for specifications.
  • Leads project resources to achieve required objectives.
  • Provides packaging expertise to a wide variety of business functions through project team participation.
  • Identifies and conducts due diligence on continuous improvement projects in packaging.
