About The Position

The Packaging Line Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining automated and semi-automated packaging equipment within a potato processing facility. This role ensures finished potato products are packaged, labeled, and prepared for distribution in accordance with food safety standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The Packaging Line Operator plays a critical role in maintaining product quality, production efficiency, workplace safety, and sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and cold-storage conditions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to PPE requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing, production, or packaging operations preferred.
  • Experience operating automated production or packaging equipment is an asset.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions, SOPs, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP principles, and food safety requirements preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
  • Ability to accurately complete production and traceability documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate packaging equipment including baggers, weighers, sealers, conveyors, case packers, and palletizing support systems.
  • Set up, adjust, and perform changeovers for different products and packaging formats.
  • Monitor production flow and make timely adjustments to maintain line efficiency and throughput targets.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues such as jams, misfeeds, and system alarms.
  • Verify product weights, seal integrity, lot coding, and labeling accuracy to ensure specification compliance.
  • Complete production records, packaging documentation, and traceability requirements accurately.
  • Conduct routine inspections of finished products and packaging materials to identify quality concerns.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP requirements, allergen controls, and food safety standards.
  • Perform equipment cleaning, sanitation activities, and maintain organized work areas.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including PPE requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices, and incident reporting protocols.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, warehouse, and shipping teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, safety initiatives, and end-of-run cleanup activities.
