About The Position

Operates a machine which bags finished products. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient packaging of dry pet food products. The operator checks holding bins for correct products, verifies code accuracy on bags, and ensures proper bag sealing. This position also involves documenting production lots for quality assurance, rotating positions with other employees, and reporting any line or machine issues to the Packaging Lead. As a team member, the operator participates in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies, coordinating work to ensure B.E.S.T practices. They attend team meetings, foster cohesiveness on major issues, and accept responsibility for identifying and resolving areas lacking cohesion. The operator is familiar with Simmons' operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understands their role in supporting these systems, including the impact of individual actions and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Requirements

  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Must be able to work on feet for entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 55 pounds of packaged product from floor to shoulder height and empty package into packaging cylinder repetitively, or hold 55 pounds of finished product inside a bag.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of up to 150 feet.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs, safety glasses, non-skid steel toed boots, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.
  • Previous machine operation skills, particularly packaging equipment skills preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience in pet food production preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a machine which bags finished products.

  • Assures product bag seals properly.
  • Accurately documents production lots utilized to assist quality assurance program.
  • Works with other employees to rotate positions.
  • Reports line or machine problems to Packaging Lead.
  • Participates as a member of the Team.
  • Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attends appropriate team meetings.
  • Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
