About The Position

The Packing Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining packaging equipment to ensure pet food products are packaged accurately and efficiently according to company standards. This role ensures that finished products meet quality and safety specifications while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in packaging operations or manufacturing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automated packaging equipment is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure product quality and accuracy.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot and adjust equipment.
  • Basic math and computer skills for data entry and documentation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Candidates must be willing to complete training on both 1st and 2nd shifts prior to the start of 3rd shift.
  • Candidates must also be flexible and willing to work mandatory overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • HACCP or GMP training is a plus but not required.
  • Forklift certification

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor packaging machines to ensure the proper filling, sealing, and labeling of bags.
  • Adjust machine settings (e.g., weights, speeds, and bag sizes) to optimize production output and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues to prevent downtime and ensure efficient operation.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure proper bag weights, seals, and labeling.
  • Verify packaging materials and labels are accurate and meet product specifications.
  • Report any non-conforming product or packaging material to the supervisor or quality team.
  • Load packaging materials (e.g., empty bags, rolls of film) into machines and monitor supply levels.
  • Assist with transporting finished packaged products to storage or distribution areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of packaging material usage and product counts.
  • Adhere to all plant safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance on packaging equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.
  • Identify and escalate complex equipment issues to the maintenance team for resolution.
  • Assist with equipment changeovers and setups to accommodate different product runs.
  • Record production data, including counts, machine settings, and any issues encountered during shifts.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance, and quality teams about equipment performance and production concerns.
  • Assist with training new operators on packaging procedures and equipment.
