The Packaging Machine Operator (PMO) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. This role involves maintaining shift documentation, planning according to the production schedule, and ensuring the smooth operation of packaging equipment. The operator will monitor codes, dates, and prices, maintain adequate supplies of packaging materials, and set up and write new programs for bag makers. They will also perform preventative maintenance, make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and troubleshoot issues. Efficient operation of packaging equipment, including case sealers and robot cells, is crucial, encompassing machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation, preventative maintenance, and shutdown. The role requires planning for machine changeovers, monitoring and adjusting machines for proper film cut-off and seals, ensuring machines run at standard speeds, and monitoring product appearance and weight control. Identifying and resolving quality issues, accounting for product run-off, and maintaining a clean work area are also key responsibilities. The operator must adhere to safety and hygiene guidelines, store supplies properly, keep work areas clear, and follow safe lifting procedures. Additional duties may include providing direction to packers, acting as a backup Packaging Coordinator, and monitoring seasoning levels. Mandatory overtime may be required.
