About The Position

The Packaging Machine Operator I is responsible for the safe and continuous running of machines to fill and package powders into various containers such as jugs, bags, boxes, and packets. This role involves setting up and adjusting equipment for specific product runs and line changeovers, participating in Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM), and maintaining scheduled production pace. The operator will work collaboratively with team members and the maintenance department to minimize downtime, troubleshoot equipment issues, and continuously improve product quality, cost, delivery, and safety. Responsibilities also include completing production paperwork, following training on GMP, safety, and SOPs, and maintaining a clean work environment. The position requires adherence to a flexible schedule, including daily overtime and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to listen, understand, and respond well to direction.
  • Ability to communicate with other line workers and maintenance staff.
  • Ability to read and complete production documentation.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable using small hand tools for equipment changeover and adjustment.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and driven to learn.
  • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive environment.
  • Ability to sustain a fast work pace based on equipment driven speeds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including daily overtime and weekends.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic written English skills.
  • Basic general mathematic skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years manufacturing experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in operation and changeover of packaging equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machine(s) to specifications for determined product run, including line speed and fill rates.
  • Set equipment for line changeovers, ensuring proper settings before the start of a run.
  • Work with team and maintenance to perform quick changeovers and limit downtime.
  • Ensure the safe and continuous running of machines for filling and packaging powders.
  • Participate in Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) and communicate with the Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain scheduled production pace.
  • Work with team members to respond to line bottlenecks.
  • Recognize and report equipment issues and troubleshoot with the maintenance crew.
  • Complete production paperwork, including GMP sign offs, downtime, and calculation of losses.
  • Assist supervisors in writing procedures and developing training aids.
  • Work with management and production team to attain goals.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in product quality, cost, delivery, and safety.
  • Follow employee training, including GMP, job skill, safety, SOPs, and improvement training.
  • Clean equipment and production area as scheduled and when necessary.
  • Maintain punctuality and good attendance.
  • Work daily overtime and weekends as business demands necessitate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
