About The Position

The Packaging Machine Operator I is responsible for the safe and continuous running of machines to fill and package powders into various containers such as jugs, bags, boxes, and packets. This role involves setting up and adjusting equipment for specific product runs and line changeovers, participating in Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM), and completing production paperwork. The operator will work collaboratively with team members and maintenance staff to minimize downtime, troubleshoot equipment issues, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in quality, cost, delivery, and safety. Adherence to company policies, including GMP, safety procedures, and SOPs, is essential. The position requires maintaining a clean work area and equipment, and punctual attendance. The role also involves daily overtime and weekend work as needed by business demands.

Requirements

  • Ability to listen, understand, and respond well to direction.
  • Ability to communicate with other line workers and maintenance staff.
  • Ability to read and complete production documentation to insure product integrity and to report downtime and packaging losses.
  • Ability to do basic math calculations.
  • Comfortable with and mechanically inclined to properly use small hand tools to changeover and adjust equipment.
  • Maintain high level of attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and driven to learn.
  • Ability to work well with others and contribute to a positive environment.
  • Ability to sustain a fast work pace based on equipment driven speeds.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including daily overtime and weekends.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic written English skills.
  • Basic general mathematic skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in operation and changeover of packaging equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the machine(s) to specifications for determined product run, including setting line speed and fill rates.
  • Set equipment for line changeovers ensuring proper settings are in place prior to start of run.
  • Work with team and maintenance to perform quick changeovers and to limit downtime.
  • Ensure the safe and continuous running of machines to fill and package powders into jugs, bags, boxes, and packets.
  • Participate in Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) and communicate effectively with the Maintenance Department.
  • Maintain scheduled production pace.
  • Work with team members to respond to line bottlenecks.
  • Recognize and report equipment issues and collaborate with maintenance to resolve them.
  • Complete production paperwork, including GMP sign offs, downtime logs, and calculation of product, packaging, or label losses.
  • Assist supervisors in writing procedures and developing training aids.
  • Work with management and team members to attain company goals.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement on product quality, cost, delivery, and safety.
  • Follow all employee training, including GMP, job skill, safety, SOPs, and improvement-oriented training.
  • Clean equipment and production area as scheduled and when necessary.
  • Be on time to work and maintain good attendance.
  • Work daily overtime and weekends as business demands necessitate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
