About The Position

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing packaging solutions that support the efficient flow of materials and finished goods across the supply chain. This role focuses on three key areas: developing returnable packaging for purchased parts, ensuring robust and protective packaging for finished goods, and driving supply chain efficiency through Plan for Every Part (PFEP) initiatives. The Packaging Engineer will collaborate cross-functionally with teams in engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and procurement to standardize packaging, minimize waste, improve cost-efficiency, and enhance part protection. Success in this role requires a blend of technical packaging expertise, supply chain knowledge, and continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in packaging engineering or a related field, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and packaging design tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ArtiosCAD, or Creo is required.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with returnable packaging systems and supplier collaboration is preferred.
  • Knowledge of PFEP principles, lean manufacturing, and logistics optimization, as well as familiarity with ISTA standards and package testing methods, is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement packaging solutions for purchased parts using returnable containers, totes, racks, and custom dunnage solutions to support material flow.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to create robust packaging and protection plans for large-scale electrical assemblies and equipment. Ensure designs accommodate size, weight, center-of-gravity, and transport method (e.g., flatbed, container, etc.), while meeting safety, environmental, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Develop packaging standards and specifications for finished goods to ensure adequate protection during storage, handling, and transit.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain and operations teams to execute PFEP (Plan for Every Part) activities including optimal container sizing, storage, and delivery methods.
  • Analyze packaging systems to reduce costs, improve cube utilization, and increase supply chain efficiency.
  • Evaluate packaging materials, sustainability performance, and lifecycle cost tradeoffs.
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure packaging compliance and integration with logistics requirements.
  • Conduct packaging trials, transit testing, and validation to ensure performance and durability.
  • Develop packaging documentation including drawings, work instructions, and container specifications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging ergonomics, automation compatibility, and line-side delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and customer-specific packaging requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
