About The Position

The primary purpose for this position is to be a project leader and packaging engineer for packaging and labeling updates to support global product launches and product changes for medical devices. This job role works in a team environment that collaborates with many functional experts including graphic designers, packaging engineers, research scientists, regulatory specialists, product managers, procurement, and manufacturing leaders across multiple countries. The Packaging Engineer II is responsible for defining content of packaging artwork and material specifications that are compliant with medical device regulations and empowering our customers to advance healthcare. This job requires knowledge of packaging science to identify alternative packaging materials and technical writing skills to complete product packaging transport study reports per ASTM D4169. Additionally, the Packaging Engineer II is expected to drive continuous improvement of packaging materials, design, and processes. This role provides direction to material suppliers, graphic designers, and labeling specialists to create the final packaging specifications in accordance with good documentation practices in the medical device and consumer retail industry. This job role reports to the Sr Manager, Packaging & Labeling and receives direction in the form of specific project and initiative objectives. This works primarily from home office with 5-10% time in an office based in Alpharetta, GA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Science, Quality Assurance, and/or progress toward advanced degree in related field.
  • At least 3 years working experiences related to package design and artwork development
  • Working experiences in medical device industry preferred
  • Familiarity of FDA or EU labeling requirements preferred
  • Skilled in Project Management methodology and tools
  • Basic understanding of a broad range of packaging materials, structures and processes including corrugate, folded cartons, flexible films, tapes, and inks.
  • Project management skills related to defining scope, planning, and execution
  • Experience in FDA regulated industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen eye for detail for proofing specifications and artwork
  • Proficient in software tools for managing documents and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools: Excel, Word, Powerpoint, MS Project

Responsibilities

  • Gather all packaging and labeling requirements from project cross-functional leaders and organize in a clear and concise manner.
  • Initial Packaging Change Requests with clear supporting documents and well-planned due dates for publishing.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail for proofing specifications prior to approval and publishing to packaging database.
  • Demonstrate good documentation practices when completing change management deliverables in quality management database.
  • Manage packaging project management phases: Initiate, Plan, Execute, Monitor, and Closure
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to improve lead time of packaging update processes.
  • Is flexible with work hours and travel required to support global manufacturing sites and suppliers.
