The Packaging Crew Member will assist in the set-up of the packaging process, maintain the work area for safety and efficiency, and efficiently package cheese into desired packaging material. They will identify and communicate any out-of-spec product conditions, ensure the packaging line has the appropriate materials, and perform routine quality checks. The role also involves completing metal detector checks/calibrations, boxing and palletizing product, working towards packaging targets, assisting teammates, and accurately completing assigned paperwork. Sanitation of packaging equipment and enforcement of good manufacturing and health and safety practices are also key responsibilities.

  • Ability to work in manufacturing environment which includes, but not limited to: standing/walking on concrete, noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, and humid), routine bending/stooping/twisting/pushing/pulling, lifting 50 lbs., climbing stairs, maneuvering around manufacturing equipment throughout shift.
  • Working with sanitation chemicals, wearing approved personal protective equipment and following approved chemical handling procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Attend scheduled shift regularly and punctually ready and able to fulfill all required duties.
  • Focus on customer satisfaction and brand integrity by adhering to and promoting company policies and procedures, including: Employee Health & Safety, Food safety, Product Quality, Productivity.
  • Assist in the set-up of the packaging process, to include: machinery, date code printers, computers, product labels, proper vat selection, added ingredients, etc.
  • Maintain the work area, including general housekeeping, to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
  • Efficiently package cheese into desired packaging material.
  • Identify and communicate any out-of-spec product conditions; follow the established notification protocol.
  • Ensure packaging line has the appropriate packaging material in use. (i.e. boxes, labels, film, cheese, etc.).
  • Perform routine quality checks to ensure product meets required specifications (i.e. temperature, weight, dimension, spice coverage, proper seal/vacuum, date coding, etc.); documenting all verification actions.
  • Complete metal detector checks/calibrations and documentation, as required.
  • Box and palletize product according to instructions, ensuring accurate counts and proper identification. Including but not limited to surface ripened, tote fill, thaw, and pail and bulk fill.
  • Work to ensure packaging targets and goals are achieved according to line schedule; rotating through line positions as instructed.
  • Assist fellow teammates in reaching their full potential by promoting a culture of team work through demonstrating, teaching, reviewing, and providing guidance.
  • Effectively communicate with department, plant, and company personnel to ensure safe and effective line operations and processes.
  • Neatly and accurately complete assigned paperwork, including: packaging records, Master Cleaning Sanitation Lists, and any other departmental records deemed necessary.
  • Sanitation of packaging equipment within the specified guidelines.
  • Practices and enforces good manufacturing and health and safety practices and continually ensures the quality of the product.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
