About The Position

The P&C Technician 2 supports the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of protective relays and control equipment within CoServ’s substations and distribution network. Working under the guidance of senior technicians and engineering staff, this role helps ensure the reliable and safe operation of protective systems while learning industry standards, regulatory requirements, and CoServ procedures. Technician 2 performs routine tasks, assists with troubleshooting, and contributes to documentation and compliance activities.

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
1–2 years of experience in relay maintenance, testing, or related electrical utility work.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
Foundational understanding of relay principles and electrical fault concepts.
Exposure to relay testing equipment preferred; hands‑on work performed under supervision.
Basic understanding of reliability and compliance standards with a willingness to learn.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is a plus.
Must reside within 10 miles of CoServ’s operations boundary (or be willing to relocate).
Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in electrical engineering technology or a related field.
Technical certifications such as NICET or equivalent.
Familiarity with microprocessor relay platforms (SEL, GE, ABB).
Basic understanding of SCADA integration and communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850).

Responsibilities

Assist in the installation and commissioning of protective relays, control panels, and associated equipment.
Support system upgrades and modifications by completing assigned wiring, labeling, and verification tasks.
Help verify relay logic, wiring, and settings under the direction of senior technicians.
Participate in acceptance testing and system verification by performing routine checks.
Assist with preliminary diagnostic tasks for relay and protection system issues.
Help identify mis‑operations, wiring problems, and communication issues between relays and SCADA systems.
Support field operations and dispatch teams during service restoration efforts.
Maintain records of troubleshooting steps and work performed.
Follow all CoServ safety policies and procedures when working in substations and high‑voltage environments.
Provide limited assistance in mentoring entry‑level team members as skills increase.
Promote safe work habits and a positive safety culture.
Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and ongoing development programs.
Demonstrate consistent safe work habits and willingness to learn from experienced technicians.
Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Assist with activities required to meet maintenance, documentation, and regulatory compliance expectations.
Maintain accurate records of relay settings, test procedures, and maintenance activities.
Support audit preparation by organizing documentation and providing requested information.
Develop foundational knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and industry practices.
Attends CoServ University training as required.
Performs other duties and activities as directed.
