About The Position

Represent the owner on a large-scale, mission-critical data center construction project in Charleston, SC. This long-term role provides the opportunity to influence safety performance at the project level while providing independent oversight of general contractors, subcontractors, and multiple trades throughout construction. Unlike a traditional contractor safety role, this position serves as the owner's on-site safety representative, evaluating contractor performance, identifying systemic risk, driving accountability, and ensuring construction activities align with the owner's safety expectations and project standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Owner's Representative Safety Manager who understands the complexity of data center construction and can influence safety performance across multiple organizations without relying solely on direct authority.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of construction safety experience
  • Data center or mission-critical construction experience required
  • Prior Owner's Representative / Owner's Safety Oversight experience on a data center project required
  • Experience providing safety oversight across general contractors, subcontractors, and multiple trades
  • Strong understanding of construction risk management and contractor safety performance
  • Ability to effectively communicate with ownership, project executives, general contractors, safety leadership, and field personnel
  • Working knowledge of Owner's Representative Safety Oversight
  • Working knowledge of Data Center & Mission-Critical Construction
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards
  • Working knowledge of Contractor & Subcontractor Safety Management
  • Working knowledge of Multi-Trade Construction Risk Management
  • Working knowledge of Electrical Construction & NFPA 70E Awareness
  • Working knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) & Hazardous-Energy Control
  • Working knowledge of Energization & Commissioning Risk Awareness
  • Working knowledge of Crane, Rigging & Critical Lift Operations
  • Working knowledge of Fall Protection & Elevated Work
  • Working knowledge of Excavation & Trenching Operations

Nice To Haves

  • CHST, CSP, GSP, or other BCSP credential

  • Experience supporting large-scale hyperscale or mission-critical construction programs

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the owner's on-site safety representative throughout construction
  • Provide independent oversight of general contractor and subcontractor safety performance
  • Conduct routine site walks, field observations, audits, and risk assessments
  • Evaluate contractor implementation of project safety plans, policies, and procedures
  • Identify systemic and high-risk safety exposures and drive proactive mitigation strategies
  • Monitor leading indicators, trends, corrective actions, and contractor safety performance
  • Participate in project safety meetings, planning sessions, and leadership discussions
  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, permits, lift plans, and other high-risk work documentation
  • Provide oversight of high-risk construction activities across multiple trades
  • Review serious incidents, near misses, investigations, root causes, and corrective actions
  • Verify corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained
  • Partner with ownership, construction leadership, and contractor safety teams to improve project-wide safety performance
  • Identify gaps between written safety programs and actual field execution
  • Support continuous improvement of the overall project safety program
  • Maintain professional documentation, observations, reports, and safety performance records

Benefits

  • Per Diem: $150/Day (7 Days Per Week)
  • Completion Bonus: $150/month
