About The Position

Local owner-operator intermodal opportunity working out of the Chicago terminal, hauling within a 150-mile zone across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Drivers may live within 30 miles of the terminal, but trucks cannot remain parked at the yard during time off; drivers based out of Elwood must arrange their own truck and trailer parking. Estimated annual gross revenue is $145,000–$150,000, averaging approximately $2,785–$2,885 per week. Pay is activity-based using Rand McNally mileage, paid whether loaded or empty, plus fuel surcharges. Drop-and-hook work averages $70 per move. The operation runs 24/7, with owner-operators choosing their own hours. Daily home time is possible, dispatch is not forced, and weekend loads are available for those who want additional earnings. Owner-operators must provide a qualifying truck that is model year 2001 or newer, has no check-engine lights, and has all exterior decals removed before starting. Sleepers and day cabs are accepted. Drivers are responsible for base plates, permits, and tolls, with optional weekly deductions of $150 for tolls and $40 for plates. Applicants need at least nine months of verifiable Class A experience and must obtain a Hazmat endorsement within 60 days of orientation. Orientation is in Chicago and pays a flat $500, with no travel mileage reimbursement. The tractor must be driven in for inspection and left for 48–72 hours for equipment setup. Drivers must bring a bill of sale, title, and Form 2290 in their own name. Contractor discounts and support include full fuel-surcharge pass-through, a dedicated discounted fuel card, lower third-party insurance rates, and special deals on tires, parts, and maintenance.
