About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is seeking an Overnight Scale Operator for their Brooklyn Stanley Ave location. IWS is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a landfill in Ohio. The company prides itself on combining the resources of a large organization with the values of a family-run business. The Overnight Scale Operator will be responsible for weighing solid waste vehicles, processing payments, checking loads for inappropriate materials, and ensuring the safety of the landfill and scale house. This role serves as the first point of contact for drivers and vendors.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• High school/GED education completed.
• Minimum 2 years of warehouse environment experience.
• Working knowledge of general computer skills.
• Knowledgeable in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment.
• Consistently capable of working independently to safely analyze and resolve problems.
• Fluency in English required.

Nice To Haves

• Higher education is a plus.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with scales is strongly preferred.
• Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Weighing in and weight out solid waste vehicles from company drivers and third-party vendors/haulers.
• Overseeing receiving payments, checking loads, and ensuring the safety of the landfill and scale.
• Serving as the first point of contact for drivers, customers, or other traffic at the scale house.
• Accurately calculating and processing payments, weights, and other measurements.
• Verifying incoming loads do not contain any unnecessary or inappropriate material.
• Performing various administrative tasks including regular filing, data entry, and reporting.
• Providing general upkeep of the scale house.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.
