About The Position

Overnight Nurse (LVN, LPT) | Orange County Alter Behavioral Health is an adult mental health treatment provider with a network of upscale inpatient residential facilities in Orange County and San Diego. This is more than clinical care — it’s being a calm, skilled, and compassionate presence during the overnight hours when clients need support the most. As an Overnight Nurse (LVN, LPT), you play a critical role in ensuring the safety, medical stability, and recovery journey of the clients entrusted to our care.

Requirements

  • Compassionate, attentive, and client-centered
  • Able to remain alert and engaged during a 12-hour overnight shift
  • Calm under pressure with strong clinical judgment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working in a residential behavioral health setting
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Current California LVN or LPT license in good standing (no board actions)
  • Valid California Driver’s License required
  • Ability to reliably work the assigned overnight schedule with consistent attendance and punctuality
  • CPR & First Aid certification required
  • Must pass Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Frequent walking, standing, and client monitoring
  • Ability to remain alert throughout overnight shifts
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs in multi-level residential homes
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to safely respond during medical or behavioral emergencies
  • Ability to operate computers and EMR systems
  • Successful Live Scan clearance
  • Completion of required health/drug screenings and TB testing
  • Compliance with DHCS, Title 22 regulations, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA, and applicable California employment laws

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year experience in behavioral health or residential treatment settings
  • Overnight nursing or healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
  • Crisis prevention/intervention certification (CPI, PMAB, HWC, or equivalent)
  • EMR experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or substance use treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of medication administration, mental health conditions, and recovery principles

Responsibilities

  • Administer, dispense, and document medications in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
  • Monitor for side effects and report concerns promptly
  • Observe client physical and mental health status throughout the shift
  • Obtain and document vital signs as required
  • Respond promptly to changes in condition or medical needs
  • Provide therapeutic support and build rapport with clients
  • Answer health-related questions and reinforce treatment goals
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment
  • Respond effectively to medical or psychiatric emergencies
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and provide immediate care as needed
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership during escalations
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR systems
  • Communicate observations and concerns to clinical and leadership teams
  • Ensure continuity of care through clear shift reporting
  • Work closely with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support overall program operations and client care standards
