About The Position

This role is for an Overnight Grocery Stocker/Warehouse Worker at the Newport Naval Station Commissary. The position is ideal for individuals who want to stay busy, be part of a friendly team, and contribute to the smooth operation of the store behind the scenes. The job involves unloading trucks, stocking shelves, coolers, and freezers, rotating products using the FIFO method, maintaining neat and organized displays, and managing the stockroom. The role also includes scanning inventory, removing damaged or expired items, monitoring stock levels, cleaning work areas, and assisting early-morning customers. Requirements

  • No experience necessary; training will be provided.
  • Valid RealID
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain government base access.
  • Willing to learn new tasks.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to consistently meet nightly stocking and case-count goals.
  • Good attitude and treats everyone with respect.
  • Gets along well with others and communicates clearly with the team.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout the store for extended periods.
  • Involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling products, boxes, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Includes repetitive physical tasks such as lifting, stocking, and breaking down boxes.
  • Work takes place in a variety of temperature conditions, including refrigerated and freezer environments.
  • Overnight shifts are part of the regular schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with frequent physical activity.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, cardboard dust, and standard retail equipment may occur.

Responsibilities

  • Unload trucks and bring products onto the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves, coolers, and freezers with new items.
  • Work with the overnight team to finish all stocking tasks before the store opens.
  • Rotate products so older items are used first (FIFO).
  • Keep shelves and displays neat, clean, and easy for customers to shop.
  • Refill endcaps, sale areas, and busy sections of the store.
  • Open boxes, sort products, and keep the stockroom organized.
  • Scan items or enter information into the store’s inventory system when needed.
  • Remove damaged, expired, or incorrect items from the shelves.
  • Inform a supervisor when items are running low or when there is too much stock.
  • Sweep, mop, and keep aisles and work areas clean.
  • Dispose of cardboard, plastic wrap, and trash during the shift.
  • Keep shelves and product areas free of clutter and debris.
  • Assist early-morning customers in finding items if they ask.
  • Report any product problems or customer concerns to supervisors.
  • Follow all safety rules when lifting, moving items, or using equipment.
  • Safely use pallet jacks, carts, and other store equipment.
  • Check in with the team leader at the start of the shift.
  • Sort items in the storage room and prepare them for shelves.
  • Ensure prices and signs on shelves match the items.
  • Break down empty boxes.
  • Assist the team in setting up displays or preparing for holiday and seasonal changes.
  • Sweep the assigned area, put away leftover items, and check shelves at the end of the shift.
