About The Position

Cowan Systems, a subsidiary of Schneider National, is seeking a talented Overnight Driver Manager to join their team. This role is responsible for the successful execution of customer freight delivery and the daily oversight and management of an assigned fleet. The Driver Manager will play a key role in problem identification, solution recognition, and system implementation to enhance driver experience and service quality. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or substituted with 4 years of similar experience
  • 2 years of dispatching CDL Class A truck drivers
  • Computer applications experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • TMS experience desired (TMW preferred)
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and related safety regulations
  • Excellent customer service, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of all terminal operation aspects
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer keyboard, and speak on the telephone.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Effectively dispatch a fleet using proper procedures for real-time management of freight and drivers, ensuring high data accuracy.
  • Maintain strong driver relationships and satisfaction by actively onboarding new drivers, reviewing driver scorecards, and auditing manifests for pay accuracy and workload balance.
  • Advocate for drivers in relation to executable plans and effectively communicate policy and schedule changes.
  • Participate in driver mentoring and appreciation activities.
  • Oversee fleet of drivers, ensuring proper training and coaching for performance improvement, and notifying management of needs for corrective action.
  • Participate in pre-trip inspections with drivers on a regular basis.
  • Coach and counsel the fleet in productivity, customer care, attendance, and company rules.
  • Develop driver performance improvement plans in coordination with HR and management.
  • Confirm driver plans, providing necessary information for assignments, including special load requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety by addressing safety concerns, communicating safety goals, and providing resources for resolution.
  • Ensure fleet compliance with DOT hours of service and driver fitness requirements before dispatch.
  • Assist in coordination of compliance activities, including scheduling physicals and submitting documentation.
  • Monitor driver progress to ensure on-time dispatch and delivery, addressing and notifying customers of any delays or issues.
  • Address customer needs and concerns during the shift, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Collect and inspect driver manifests and other necessary documentation for driver pay and customer invoicing.
  • Maintain, track, and report equipment levels daily at customer locations, requesting adjustments as needed.
  • Perform periodic inspections of company equipment to identify maintenance issues and accident damage.
  • Review revenue per truck per day and perform quarterly fleet performance reviews to identify opportunities and develop improvement plans.
