About The Position

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Founded in 1998, IWS combines the resources of a large company with the values of a family-run business, serving diverse industrial, medical, and commercial/residential customers. The Dispatcher is a critical role, serving as the primary contact for Drivers and customers. This position involves utilizing fleet management software to monitor driver progress, set up crew sheets, schedule drivers, and handle customer inquiries. The Dispatcher also manages daily truck activity to ensure driver productivity, reviews driver requests for service or repairs, and coordinates with various internal departments to resolve issues. Accurate geo-coding and daily productivity data entry are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Dispatching experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety.
  • Knowledge of applicable traffic, transportation, and other laws and regulations.
  • Intermediate to excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • 1+ years of live dispatching experience.
  • Completion of relevant undergraduate degree or certificate program
  • Experience from the sanitation industry
  • Experience working with Routeware, Tower and/or Transman

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and protocols as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Scheduling and dispatching drivers, work crews, vehicles, or equipment to appropriate locations according to predetermined schedules, customer requests or immediate needs.
  • Manage daily truck activity to ensure driver productivity is commensurate with hours worked.
  • Set up crew sheets and notify all employees of their schedules.
  • Review Driver requests for container switches or repairs and enter service tickets into the company database.
  • Initiate outbound calls to customers while Drivers are onsite to resolve pick-up and other service issues.
  • Using RouteWare tablets to communicate with on the field team members.
  • Coordinating with route supervisors, customer service, maintenance, or sales to resolve problems, requests for services or equipment.
  • Keeping and organizing work requests, customer requests, completed work requests, charges for work performed, inventory records and other information.
  • Assuring that all customer locations are geo coded accurately in Tower/RouteWare.
  • Entering daily productivity into Tower (i.e., tons, miles, hours of service, etc.).
