About The Position

The Chiller Mechanic at Emory University performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair to Utility Plant water chillers of up to 2,000 tons and associated equipment to include cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and water filtering systems to provide a high level of availability and energy efficiency. Emory University is seeking a Chiller Operator I role working the shift Sunday - Thursday; 10:30 pm - 7:00 am.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience operating HVAC equipment.
  • Graduation from an accredited HVAC technical school or equivalent experience.
  • May require a valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience operating chillers sized 500 tons and up including cooling towers and associated equipment is required.
  • A working knowledge of related application software.
  • Familiarity with Excel, Word, Asset Works (AiM work management software) and Buildings Control Systems (Seimens, ALC, Delta).
  • A working knowledge of chiller, pump, and cooling tower control schematics

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair to Utility Plant water chillers of up to 2,000 tons and associated equipment to include cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and water filtering systems to provide a high level of availability and energy efficiency.
  • Assists with advanced repairs, overhaul, disassembly, reassembly, and modification to Utility Plant water chillers, pumps, and fans.
  • Helps troubleshoot and provides input on control sequence for operation of chillers and associated equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Works in a safe manner and keeps up with OSHA standards and all other applicable federal regulations.
  • Completes preventative maintenance orders, work orders, and documents work performed.
  • Communicates orally and written with department personnel and management for the purpose of receiving and advising on matters concerning chiller plant operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Follow scheduled maintenance plan and complete preventative maintenance tasks in timely manner.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
