Primary Role: The Overhead Foreman leads and supervises crews to complete daily tasks related to the placement of overhead electrical wires and equipment to meet customer needs, ensuring crew safety, logging employee hours, completing daily safety briefings/inspections and other leadership tasks. Oversee and assist with the day-to-day activities of the line crew and the project to which they are assigned and reports directly to the General Foreman and Project Manager.

  • Drive all vehicles assigned to the line crew
  • Operate a digger derrick to set poles
  • Endurance necessary to perform duties throughout a standard eight- or ten-hour workday, as scheduled
  • Able to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, and weekends
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment
  • Implement and enforce the safety program at the field level
  • Sufficient eyesight to judge distances and the coordination needed to obtain and use appropriate equipment and tools while assisting other line crew members
  • Work with hands above the head for extended periods
  • Walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights and on uneven or slippery surfaces while performing mentally and physically demanding work in unfavorable weather conditions and handling equipment or materials
  • Travel long distances on short notice when required
  • Work for extended periods in various locations when required
  • Journeyman Lineman with a minimum of eight years of industry experience
  • Possess a Class A CDL or obtain one within 30 days of employment
  • Able to lift up to 100 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise crews
  • Comply with company and customer safety standards and expectations
  • Read job prints and other instructions related to the job
  • Maintain proper work records, such as timesheets and material records
  • Brief the crew daily on work tasks and associated hazards
  • Direct crew members in specific job tasks
  • Mentor and support the development of line crew members
  • Confer with customers, property owners, the public, other contractors, utility representatives, and government agencies
  • Meet with the General Foreman, Utility Coordinator, safety representatives, and others
  • Set safety standards and expectations for the crew
  • Ensure that quality job briefings are conducted
  • Have experience installing and maintaining various types of distribution and transmission lines ranging from 4 kV to 500 kV, including wood poles, H-frames, steel poles, lattice structures, and related equipment
  • Possess thorough knowledge of industry standards and best practices and demonstrate innovation in methods and procedures
