Overhead Crane Operator & Steel Handler
About The Position
The Overhead Crane Operator & Steel Handler moves and positions structural steel, loads and unloads trailers, and supports daily yard operations. The role involves operating overhead cranes and Pettibone equipment, moving trailers around the yard, and working outdoors in changing weather conditions. Training may be available for applicants who demonstrate the right skills and work ethic. This is a second-shift, contract-to-hire position in York, Pennsylvania. Starting pay is $22.00 per hour, with higher pay potentially available depending on experience. A $3.00-per-hour shift differential applies to second shift.
Requirements
- Experience operating overhead cranes and handling materials.
- Experience loading and moving structural steel with an overhead crane is required.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Dependable attendance, a strong work ethic, and commitment to safety.
- Willingness to learn additional equipment and procedures.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with Pettibone equipment or similar material-handling machinery is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Operate overhead cranes to lift, position, and move structural steel safely.
- Use Pettibone equipment to transport steel and materials around the yard.
- Move trailers around the yard as needed.
- Load and unload trailers and organize materials for handling and storage.
- Follow proper lifting, rigging, and material-handling safety procedures.
- Work with the shop team to support daily production and yard activities.
- Maintain reliable attendance and follow workplace safety requirements.
