About The Position

This position is accountable for supporting parts requirements for the overhaul of turbines engines and related equipment. The machinist position provides material recovered from core engines or sub assemblies for the remanufacturing per engineering instruction and techniques utilizing manual and or CNC machines and general shop equipment.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 4 years manual machine experience (lathes, mills, grinders, ect..)
  • 2 years experience with CNC milling machines
  • Able to read measuring instruments. (micrometers, calipers, scales, indicators, ect..)
  • Able to read prints and understand GD&T symbols and principals
  • Must be able to do own setups and determine best way to machine parts based on what’s needed. (fixturing, tooling, order of operations, and datum selection)
  • Must be capable of: Standing for prolonged periods of time with frequent breaks.
  • Working within hearing conservation areas
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions is a must.
  • Must possess the ability to work closely and effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate ability to interpret engineering instructions.
  • Knowledgeable in the use and application of precision measurement devices and instruments.
  • Proficient in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines, OD grinders and some CNC milling machines.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision while providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced machinist
  • Demonstrates ability to lead process improvement teams for improvements in the areas of safety, quality, velocity and cost.
  • Direct reporting to the Value Stream Mgr.
  • Demonstrated ability of advanced computer skills, with some demonstrated machine programming knowledge
  • Maintain calibrated tool list to insure tools stay in calibration

Nice To Haves

  • Able to troubleshoot minor machine problems
  • Able to program 2 and 3 axis machines via g and m code or conversational
  • Experience making fixtures and tooling
  • Associate degree is preferred to enhance promotability

Responsibilities

  • Support for test cells and build areas for bolt extractions and thread repair
  • Support for Tooling Group for manufacturing of new tools or modifications of existing ones
  • Machining and repair of turbine engine parts and related components ensuring best practices per engineering instructions are followed in order to provide the maximum yield of core material.
  • Routing of material upon completion to next operation for all completed components.
  • Ensure material is preserved and delivered to upstream customer with special attention of overall accuracy and completion of all required documentation including SFIS.
  • Participate on process improvement teams within primary area and across departmental boundaries
  • Contribute to daily responsibilities regarding safety and work area 5S is a must
  • Mentor and train less experienced machinist in your areas of expertise
  • Lead continuous improvement projects associated with safety, quality velocity and cost
