Outside Superintendent - Vessels

Louis Dreyfus Company•Port Allen, LA

About The Position

Louis Dreyfus Company is hiring an Outside Superintendent - Vessels to lead and supervise vessel loading crews throughout operations. The role executes loading plans in accordance with stowage requirements, trim strategies, and tonnage targets, and directs the loading sequence to maintain vessel stability and draft compliance. The superintendent makes real-time decisions to improve loading efficiency and reduce downtime. The position assigns and monitors stevedore personnel, conducts pre-shift briefings, safety talks, and job hazard analyses, and serves as the liaison between terminal operations, maintenance, inspectors, and vessel crew. It coordinates with ship officers on loading progress, trim, and draft limitations, monitors cargo distribution and vessel conditions, confirms hold-cleanup inspection status, and adjusts operations for weather or other constraints. The superintendent enforces OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and marine safety practices, including PPE, fall protection, confined-space procedures, and lockout/tagout. The role addresses unsafe conditions and documents incidents, near misses, and safety violations. It also ensures grain grades and segregation meet customer and FGIS requirements and prevents cross-contamination. When needed, the superintendent must be able to perform vessel-loading operations: operate ship-loading systems such as spouts, conveyors, trippers, and dust-control equipment; monitor and adjust grain flow; follow loading plans; communicate with vessel crew, inspectors, and terminal personnel; and ensure grain is distributed to meet stability and draft requirements.
