About The Position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Carter Lumber, you will focus on building and maintaining relationships within the booming building materials industry. This role involves working with various departments, from the yard and dispatch to management, to market Vice Presidents. Your primary responsibility will be to find and close sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers. Beyond selling, you will manage the sold projects and customer relationships, staying updated on customer product use and trends, visiting job sites, maintaining schedules, and resolving issues. Success in this role requires proven sales strategies, commitment, follow-through, and strong communication skills. The compensation includes a base salary plus commission with uncapped earning potential.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Finding and completing sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers.
  • Managing sold projects and customer relationships.
  • Collecting and updating information on customer product use and trends.
  • Visiting job sites as needed.
  • Maintaining schedules.
  • Resolving issues ('putting out fires').
  • Creating material estimates/quotes and special orders.
  • Opening new accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Learning to read blueprints and provide material take-off lists.
  • Attending HBA/builder/company functions as required.
