About The Position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Carter Lumber, your primary focus will be on building and maintaining strong relationships within the booming building materials industry. This role offers the opportunity to work for a multi-billion-dollar, family-owned company that has been in business for 90 years, staying true to its core values of honesty, hard work, and putting people first. You will collaborate with various departments, from the yard and dispatch to middle management and Vice Presidents, to drive sales of building materials and installed services to local contractors, builders, and remodelers. Success in this role requires managing sold projects and customer relationships, staying informed about customer product use and trends, visiting job sites, maintaining schedules, and effectively resolving issues. Proven sales strategies, commitment, and strong communication skills are essential. The compensation includes a base salary plus commission with uncapped earning potential.

Requirements

  • Building materials sales experience required.
  • Knowledge of home building basics.
  • Ability to learn to read blueprints and provide material take off lists.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Finding and completing sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers.
  • Managing sold projects and customer relationships.
  • Collecting and maintaining up-to-date information on customers’ product use and trends.
  • Visiting job sites as needed.
  • Maintaining schedules.
  • Resolving issues and putting out fires.
  • Creating material estimates/quotes and special orders.
  • Opening new accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Attending HBA/builder/company functions as required.
