About The Position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Carter Lumber, you will focus on building and maintaining relationships within the booming building materials industry. This role offers the opportunity to work for a multi-billion-dollar, family-owned company that has been in business since 1932 and values honesty, hard work, and putting people first. You will collaborate with various departments, from the yard and dispatch to management, to market and sell a full line of building materials and installed services to local contractors, builders, and remodelers. Success in this role requires managing sold projects and customer relationships, staying updated on customer product use and trends, visiting job sites, maintaining schedules, and resolving issues. Strong sales strategies, follow-through, and communication are essential. The position offers a salary plus commission with unlimited earning potential.

Requirements

  • Experience in sales
  • Knowledge of home building basics
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Responsibilities

  • Finding and completing sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers.
  • Managing sold projects and customer relationships.
  • Collecting and updating information on customers’ product use and trends.
  • Visiting job sites as needed.
  • Maintaining schedules.
  • Resolving issues and putting out fires.
  • Creating material estimates/quotes and special orders.
  • Opening new accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Learning to read blueprints and provide material take off lists.
  • Attending HBA/builder/company functions as required.
