About The Position

As an Outside Sales Representative at Carter Lumber, you will focus on building and maintaining relationships within the booming building materials industry. This role offers the opportunity to work for a multi-billion-dollar, family-owned company that has been in business since 1932. You will collaborate with various departments, including the Yard, dispatch, middle management, and marketing Vice Presidents. Your primary responsibility will be to find and close sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers. Beyond selling, you will manage the sold jobs and customer relationships, staying updated on customer product use and trends, visiting job sites, maintaining schedules, and resolving issues. Success in this role requires proven sales strategies, commitment, follow-through, and strong communication skills. The compensation includes a base salary plus commission with uncapped earning potential.

Requirements

  • Experience in sales
  • Knowledge of home building basics
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Responsibilities

  • Find and complete sales of building materials and installed services with local contractors, builders, and remodelers.
  • Manage sold jobs and customer relationships.
  • Collect and keep up-to-date information on customers’ product use and trends.
  • Visit job sites as needed.
  • Maintain schedules.
  • Resolve issues and 'put out fires'.
  • Create material estimates/quotes and special orders.
  • Open new accounts on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Learn to read blueprints and provide material take off lists.
  • Attend HBA/builder/company functions as required.
