About The Position

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for managing the overall sales and marketing efforts for Olympic Steel within an assigned territory. The coverage area is Western NY- Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY to Syracuse, NY. This position utilizes frequent, direct face-to-face contact and a consultative sales approach to ensure customer satisfaction. The representative identifies selling opportunities and assertively acts upon the opportunities that offer maximum potential and/ or profit. This position develops new accounts and maintains strong working relationships with established, loyal customers. In addition, the Outside Sales Representative is responsible for developing annual forecasts and implementing plans and strategies to achieve revenue and volume targets. This position partners with the Inside Sales Representatives to ensure high-quality service, including on time delivery according to customer specifications. Desired candidate must live in the Buffalo, NY or Rochester, NY area.

Requirements

  • 3+ years related work experience in sales, preferably in a steel service environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business Administration, Marketing, or Engineering) or commensurate sales experience in steel industry.
  • Ability to develop new account relationships and expand business with existing customer base.
  • Steel product knowledge, general business acumen, and demonstrated customer service aptitude.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel as the position requires by air and land.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiations, educating customers about products and services, as well as closing a sale.
