About The Position

Applied Controls, a SunSource company, is a high-tech automation distributor and solutions provider focused on helping local manufacturers implement emerging technologies to reduce costs, increase productivity, and improve safety. Their offerings include industrial computers and software, Robotics, Machine Vision, and Motion Control. They are seeking an Automation Outside Sales Account Manager to cover the Pittsburgh, PA territory. This is a consultative sales role where the individual will partner with OEMs, manufacturers, and industrial customers to deliver automation solutions aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, reliability, and safety. The ideal candidate enjoys building relationships, developing new business, and collaborating with technical specialists and leading automation manufacturers to solve manufacturing challenges.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of outside sales experience selling industrial automation, controls, motion control, electrical products, or other industrial solutions preferred.
  • Demonstrated success growing industrial sales accounts and territories.
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation products and manufacturing applications.
  • Strong consultative selling, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to evaluate applications and recommend solutions using internal technical resources.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM software.
  • Experience managing opportunities and forecasts within a CRM system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grow sales and profitability by expanding existing accounts and developing new business opportunities.
  • Build strong customer relationships and serve as a trusted advisor by recommending industrial automation products, engineered solutions, and value-added services.
  • Achieve sales and gross profit objectives through consultative selling.
  • Conduct account reviews to identify expansion opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Automation Product Specialists, Inside Sales, and supplier partners to develop solutions and close business.
  • Promote engineering services, systems integration, and customer training programs.
  • Develop and execute territory sales plans while monitoring market trends and competitive activity.
  • Maintain customer activity, pipeline, and forecasting information within the CRM system.
  • Participate in sales, technical, and manufacturer training to strengthen product knowledge.
  • Travel throughout the territory to develop opportunities and strengthen customer relationships.
