About The Position

This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on maintaining and repairing aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The technician will work outdoors daily using bucket trucks, ladders, and hand tools to restore service, perform preventative maintenance, and support network reliability. The Broadband Network Technician I is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting and resolving system outages for data, video, and telephone. This role will be responsible for emergency restoration of coax, underground cable, maintenance of power supply, leakage and splicing. The BNT I is required to maintain documentation as needed. This role participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off-air interference. Prepare and perform emergency aerial and/or underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in telecom field work, cabling, construction, or utilities (coax, fiber, or electrical)
  • Maintain satisfactory driving record and have a valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off-air interference.
  • Prepare and perform emergency aerial and/or underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) in the form of testing, balancing, alignment and adjustments of components or equipment.
  • Monitor, record and repair cable leakage, complying with applicable regulations.
  • Observe and assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities.
  • Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs.
  • Install, replace, and repair coaxial and fiber optic cabling, including aerial and buried plant.
  • Perform pole transfers, span replacements, and drop repairs.
  • Operate bucket trucks, ladders, and field equipment.
  • Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
