About The Position

The Outside Plant (OSP) Field Engineer is responsible for ensuring fiber network construction aligns with established engineering and operational standards. This role provides on-site oversight across multiple fiber construction projects, supporting both aerial and underground builds. The OSP Field Engineer/Inspector ensures all aspects of outside plant construction—including fiber installation, conduit, splicing, enclosures, field electronics, and restoration—meet or exceed quality and compliance expectations. This individual partners closely with construction teams to identify issues, drive resolution, and ensure successful project delivery.

Requirements

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, civil plans, and construction drawings related to fiber and right-of-way projects
  • Knowledge of make-ready construction processes
  • Experience analyzing fiber test results and applying pass/fail criteria
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and external partners

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and inspect fiber construction projects (aerial and underground) to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements
  • Identify construction issues, develop solutions, and coordinate remediation efforts with contractors and internal teams
  • Create and manage punch lists, ensuring timely resolution of deficiencies prior to project acceptance
  • Review permits and right-of-way documentation to verify work is performed in accordance with approved plans and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor job sites for adherence to safety standards, including PPE use, proper sequencing, and approved construction practices
  • Conduct site walks, field surveys, and substructure evaluations to support project execution
  • Maintain accurate and detailed field documentation, including photos, notes, and sketches of construction progress and conditions
  • Provide regular updates on project status, including daily reporting of progress, issues, and follow-ups
  • Verify construction progress against as-built documentation and tracking systems
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, municipalities, and stakeholders regarding work in progress
