About The Position

This role focuses on maintaining and enhancing the fiber network through expertise in OSP fiber administration practices. The engineer will be responsible for fiber optic troubleshooting, OTDR testing and analysis, and utilizing GIS-based fiber management systems for network planning and updates. Key responsibilities include reviewing construction as-built drawings, maintaining accurate network records, coordinating with vendors and stakeholders, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. The position also involves attention to detail for quality assurance, including reviewing splice matrices and maintaining data integrity across software tooling systems. Team leadership and coordination through meetings and mentorship are also part of the role, along with staying informed on emerging tools and technologies and creating detailed documentation and reports.

Requirements

• Associate Degree or Certification (Minimum Requirement): Fiber Optics Technology, Networking and Communications, Electronics Engineering Technology
• Minimum 4 years field experience or Bachelor’s Degree in either Telecommunications Engineering, IT or related field
• Expertise in fiber optic cables and troubleshooting high losses and failures
• Expertise in fiber administration practices
• Knowledge of OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) testing and its application in fiber optic cable testing and associated analysis
• Experience with GIS-based fiber management systems and the ability to read construction as-built drawings and maintain records
• Excellent communication skills with internal xfn’s and external vendors, including managing vendor relationships and task and coordination
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and OKR and dashboard management
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reviewing and editing splice matrices, verifying new scope, and maintaining data integrity in software tooling systems
• Ability to lead and organize meetings, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and provide guidance to other team members
• Familiarity with various fiber software tools
• Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements related to OSP work
• Ability to drive process improvements and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to OSP work, including MOPs, SOWs, SOPs, and Job-Aids
• Proficiency in multiple ticketing systems

Nice To Haves

• Specialized Training and Certifications (Highly Desirable): Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certifications from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). OTDR Testing Certification. GIS Certification (for advanced GIS-based management systems). Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP or CAPM) for handling multiple projects. Safety Certifications, such as OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training relevant to construction and OSP environments.
• Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (e.g., ITU-T, ANSI, and IEEE)
• Knowledge of optical/DWDM systems a plus

Responsibilities

• Apply expertise in OSP fiber administration practices to maintain and enhance the fiber network.
• Analyze OTDR testing to assess fiber optic cable integrity and analyze test results to ensure optimal performance.
• Utilize GIS-based fiber management systems for network planning and updates.
• Review construction as-built drawings and maintain accurate and up-to-date network records.
• Manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth coordination of tasks and deliverables.
• Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all tasks are prioritized and completed within deadlines.
• Monitor OKRs and dashboards to track project progress and outcomes.
• Review and edit splice matrices for accuracy and verify new scopes of work.
• Maintain data integrity across software tooling systems.
• Organize and lead meetings with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
• Utilize software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glassworks (where applicable). Candidates with experience in equivalent industry standard platforms are highly encouraged to apply, including: GIS & Fiber Management: IQGeo, 3GIS, OSPInsight, or Esri ArcGIS. Project & Infrastructure Management: Sitetracker, Vitruvi, or Procore. Workflow & Ticketing Systems: ServiceNow or Salesforce Telecom. OTDR Diagnostics: EXFO FastReporter or VIAVI Fiberizer
• Stay informed on emerging tools and technologies relevant to OSP engineering.
• Create and maintain detailed records, including MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOWs (Statements of Work), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and job aids.
• Provide regular updates and documentation for project progress and outcomes.
