About The Position

Responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient operation of the assigned power plants and process facilities. This is the entry operator position and is responsible for operating and monitoring plant equipment outside of the control room. Records operational data and reports any abnormalities. May perform minor maintenance tasks. All duties are performed in accordance with approved procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Work is performed with minimal supervision and direction from the Control Operator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); demonstrated knowledge of power plant operation and outside operator job skills; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year of demonstrated competence in outside operator competencies.
  • Knowledge of PC software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing, and database.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately.
  • Ability to communicate orally, including the use of a radio and group presentations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts including percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • A valid California driver’s license is required

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to, and support, all company safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the wellfield, brine processing facility, power station, and control room in a safe and clean operating condition.
  • Inspect and monitor equipment to detect malfunctions, need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Record notes and communicates pertinent data, observations, and trends regarding normal and transient operation to the Control Operator and shift relief.
  • Initiates work orders as needed.
  • Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specific intervals. Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, pressures, voltage load and generator balance, and power meter readings.
  • Assist in the start-up, operation, and shutdown of all equipment.
  • Assist or perform start-up of turbine/generators sets and synchronization.
  • Perform a variety of chemical analysis, including obtaining samples, performing the analysis and interpret the results of the analysis.
  • Monitoring plant performance and ensure optimum operating conditions are maintained.
  • Perform mechanical duties, i.e., PPM’s, minor repairs and/or emergency repairs.
  • Responsible for progressing in the company-training program and assisting others.
