The Overall purpose of this job is to work within a team of Outside Machinists to achieve minimum production time, standards, and quality in keeping with company policies, while maintaining a positive and motivated team environment. The role involves installing, disassembling, fault finding, repairing, and re-assembling shipboard equipment on board vessels. It requires marking and measuring to close tolerances, safely rigging equipment, and inspecting work to identify potential problems and initiate corrective actions. The position also focuses on increasing awareness of Quality procedures, ensuring adherence to correct work procedures, improving communication and flexibility within the team, developing other team members' skills, and building pride of workmanship and quality through on-the-job training. Additionally, the role contributes to innovation and productivity improvements, assists in waste elimination, helps maintain control of department equipment and its maintenance, and works towards the team goal of delivering the vessel on time. The machinist must follow Austal guidelines and procedures, ensure the work area is left clean, and all equipment and tools are stowed away safely and protected against damage. Work must be performed in compliance with NAVSEA STD Items, and the ability to travel to off-site work locations and follow the Austal Off-Site Temporary Assignment Policy is required.
