About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Outreach Specialist 2 (H) to work in Miami, FL. The Outreach Specialist 2 supports in developing and implementing new and existing public education and outreach programs, serving as a liaison to the community. Moreover, the incumbent performs a wide variety of duties and demonstrates a high level of professionalism and effectiveness. The Outreach Specialist 2 utilizes project management skills to organize community outreach activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science or health-related field, human resources, communications, education, media or public relations required
  • Minimum 4 year of relevant experience
  • Excellent people- and public speaking skills
  • Expertise in writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

  • Experience in working with website content is a plus
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Supports in the development and implementation of public education and outreach programs.
  • Works with community-based organizations to plan promotional educational and other events targeted towards designing an increased awareness in the community.
  • Assists in the publishing activities: writing, editing, budgeting, scheduling, and distribution.
  • Interacts effectively with outside advertising agencies, printers, photographers, and other vendors.
  • Aids with the preparation and distribution of public health education and navigation manuals.
  • Identifies effective strategies for promoting enrollment in ongoing studies, conducting active and passive recruitment, in-person, and online outreach.
  • Conducts brief surveys by phone and in community settings.
  • Aids with compiling data for presentations.
  • Develops professional relationships with mental health providers, researchers, and community members.
  • Collaborates with other members of the team on special projects and events.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Plan promotional, outreach, and educational activities to increase community awareness of CCBH services in research, education, outreach, academic/professional training, executive brain health, and clinical services.
  • Research community leaders and organizations aligned with CCBH’s mission and services in order to build relationships and collaborate in healthy brain aging initiatives serving diverse populations.
  • Research activities that promote healthy brain aging, including creative arts, music, exercise, greenspace, mindfulness, nutrition, and social games.
  • Collaborate with activity Instructors and offer outreach activities to diverse community groups.
  • Establish Instructors as either volunteers or vendors.
  • Work in close collaboration with CCBH education and recruitment staff.
  • Respond to and follow up incoming, non-clinical CCBH inquiries via phone, email, and walk-ins.
  • Maintain effective communication with current and prospective community leaders and community members to ensure CCBH goals and objectives are met.
  • Assist with on-site, non-clinical visitor engagements in marketing and promotional activities.
  • Attend outreach and networking events aligned with CCBH's mission, in-person and virtual.
  • Create print and electronic brochures/flyers/tools/products for CCBH’s services with messaging and images for the specific communication goals.
  • Maintain and store on CCBH cloud storage.
  • Create and maintain reports, spreadsheets, records, and documents to coordinate and implement CCBH activities, programs, and events.
  • Distribute CCBH literature and materials in the community for CCBH’s services as needed.
  • Responsible for outreach events, including initiating, planning, communicating to all involved parties, transporting materials, giveaways, and equipment to the venue, and serving as CCBH lead at event.
  • Maintain outreach flyer and document printed inventory and maintain on the CCBH cloud storage.
  • Track all outreach initiative efforts and details on OER tracker, including contacts, Instructors, attendees reached or served, event feedback, and next steps for relationship building.
  • Enter event contact sign-up info in Listserv for communication and in PS tracker for research interest.
  • Maintain promotional/gift items inventory, including coordinating purchasing, category level assignment, distribution tracking, on-site storage, and off-site storage.
  • Coordinate and design a bi-annual CCBH Newsletter, including content and photos.
  • Coordinate photography/video for events.
  • Maintain photo/video inventory on CCBH cloud storage
  • Assist in recruitment activities, including communications, promotions, materials, collaborations, transport materials, giveaways, equipment to events, and attend as a CCBH representative.
  • Assist with educational programs, including lectures, conferences, presentations, etc., for professional and lay audiences, off-site and on-site.
  • Assist with materials, promotions, communication with presenters and attendees, and organize venue/catering/AV support.
  • Transport event materials, giveaways, equipment, and attend as a CCBH representative.
  • Assist with Plinko game and raffle prizes.
  • Assist with academic and/or professional training programs, including planning, creating materials, documenting continuing education credits, arranging itineraries and travel, and related support tasks.
  • Assist with fostering relationships to secure CCBH vendors, sponsors, and philanthropy donations.
  • Assist in development of print, slide and internet-based educational brochures/tools/products that correspond with CCBH educational and research-related goals. This includes developing and organizing content with input from other personnel and creating the product (or working with a computer programmer on staff)
  • Assist in the screening and scheduling of research participants for research studies. This may include gathering information from the medical record, physician referral, advertisement and directly scheduling a visit to evaluate the participant.
  • Assist with strengthening relationships with UM departments, clinics, groups, and professionals.
  • Maintain all UM and CCBH trainings, renewals, and continuing education requirements and complete within assigned timelines.
  • Assist with data entry.
  • Demonstrate critical judgment to maintain the integrity of clinical and research protocols without compromising patient safety.
  • Assists with grant related activities
  • Other duties as assigned.
